SATOP PAYS TRIBUTE TO SHUTTLE PROGRAM

As the Space Shuttle comes to its final wheel stop. we would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge all of the scientists and engineers with NASAís contractors and NASA employees and say thanks for their contribution to the U.S. Space Program. They have inspired a generation and helped make the world a better place for the future of space exploration. For over thirty years. the Space Shuttle has been the flagship of the United Statesí space program. having flown more than 130 missions. The Space Shuttle has launched communications and weather satellites. as well as satellites for military and national security purposes. and there have been tremendous advancements made in the fields of medical and scientific research due to the space program. Over the years. the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope provided us a window to our universe. and the building of the International Space Station provided the platform for international collaboration and cooperation in space for years to come. There have been hundreds of technology spin-offs that have improved our lives on a daily basis. benefiting industry and creating jobs. Since SATOPís mission is to transfer the knowledge and technology of the U.S. Space Program to small businesses. it is fitting that we pay tribute at this time to the extraordinary success of the Space Shuttle program and the outstanding technical assistance provided by the engineers and scientists that we have had the privilege to work with over the years. SATOP provides small businesses with free technical assistance through the expertise of the Space Program. as well as aerospace contractors. NASA field centers. national laboratories. universities and colleges. These organizations join SATOP as Alliance Partners and donate time and expertise to help solve technical challenges for small businesses. The outstanding technical assistance provided to U.S. small businesses participating in the SATOP since the national program began in 2001 has resulted in a total economic impact that exceeds half-a-billion dollars! We are honored to have worked together with the men and women that made the space program a resounding success. As the Space Shuttle program winds down. SATOP looks forward to continuing to work with our Alliance Partners to offer free technical assistance to small businesses. The SATOP Team
